What buyers ask us
How is gold filled different from gold plated?
Thickness and method. Plating deposits a microns-thin layer electrochemically; gold filled bonds a sheet of karat gold that is a measured percentage of the item's weight — around a hundred times more gold. Plating wears through, gold filled generally does not.
What does 1/20 14K mean?
The gold layer is 1/20th — five percent — of the total weight, and that gold is 14 karat. It is a weight ratio, which is why gold filled is quoted differently from plating.
Is gold filled suitable for permanent jewelry?
Yes, and it is one of the most common choices for it, because welded-on pieces are never removed and so need a finish that tolerates constant contact with skin, water and friction.
